Gee Ranasinha Marketing

Seth Godin’s blog nearly always has some useful nuggets of wisdom, and today is no exception.

As Seth points out, marketing is not advertising. I define Marketing as the creation and ongoing administration of an environment that is conducive to Sales. In other words, marketers create the playground that the sales people play in. Advertising, branding, communications and so on are component elements of Marketing’s bigger picture.

Many companies first create their product or service, and only then look for Marketing to bring it to life.

That’s the wrong way round.
